Back in 2014, artisans at London based gold-plating company, Goldgenie, turned a US$1049 Giant Defy 3 aluminum framed road bike into a 24-karat gold bike by gold plating every piece of the bike , from the tips of the handlebars, to the spokes, to the derailleur, chain and every single cog on the gear clusters.
Billed as ‘a mobile golden masterpiece’, the bicycle turned heads when Goldgenie took it for a spin near its offices in Westminster.
Director of Goldgenie said:
"It’s the most amazing piece of movable sculpture in the world"
The company ,which also gold-plates other things including rose bouquets, iPhones and iPads , sold the amazing 24-karat gold bike for US$390k, that's about US$65k more than the price of a brand new Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUV .
